Today we look at Romans 6:3, “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?” Here Paul is mainly speaking about the implications of Christian Baptism, showing us a new and vital side of it. Maybe you recall Jesus himself talking about a baptism he must go through, a baptism of agony and death. He was consecrated into this Baptism when he was baptized in the Jordan. Paul is saying that our Baptism is connected to Jesus’ Baptism. In other words, everything that happened to Jesus and through him when he died and rose became ours when we were baptized. And since we are united to him through our Baptism, we are assured that his death gave us forgiveness. His resurrection assures us that we will rise from the grave to eternal life. Please pray with me, My Lord and Savior; I thank you because you have chosen me and made me a Christian. I know now that I am truly united in you because of my Baptism. In your blessed name, I pray. Amen
