During Lent, I am continuing to share a daily thought with you about “something for you to give up that is spiritually unhealthy and to replace it with something that will be restoratively and spiritually positive.” I believe this exchange will absolutely benefit you in your walk with Jesus. Today’s devotion is based on Exodus 20: 3—“You shall have no other gods before me.” Someone once said that “If you are self-made, then it can become easy to worship your maker, which by definition is YOU!” You have become your own god. However, suppose you believe that everything you have is from your Creator God who is the source of your life, talents, possessions, treasures and basically everything you have. In that case, it puts things in perspective, and there is absolutely no room in your heart and mind for self-worship. If this is an area of concern for you, then humble yourself before God and repent. He will forgive you and help you by the power of His Spirit to realign you life’s priorities. Exchange self-worship for worship of the Living Triune God—father, Son and Holy Spirit. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen; please forgive me for those times when I have begun to believe that I am the center of my life. Help me to remember that you are the center of my life. In Jesus’ holy name, I pray. Amen.
