Today's devotion is based on Acts 2:42: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, the breaking of bread and the prayers.” This verse gives us a description of the first congregation and, at the same time, a description of the Christian Church throughout time, for these practices will always exist and can never change in a Christian congregation. A true Christian church follows the teachings of the New Testament, that is the teaching of the Apostles. A true Christian church comes together in fellowship, both in everyday life and the worship Service. A true Christian church celebrates the Lord’s Supper. A true Christian church spends time earnest, meaningful prayer, especially in the worship service where public prayer is prayed. So, while worship styles have changed over the years, these things cannot change; teaching of God’s Word, coming together in worship, celebrating the Lord’s Supper, and purposeful prayer. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Lord, Holy Spirit, come to your Church. You know that a spiritless church is a mockery of God, while a Spirit-filled Church is a pillar of support for the truth, source of life, and a refuge for all who are burdened, and tired. Thank you, Lord, for the Holy Spirit. Amen
