Cleaning the toilet is beautiful work Today's devotion is based on Ecclesiastes 3:9-13, "What gain has the worker from his toil? I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil-- this is God's gift to man." Doing the work God has given us to do in our lives, knowing that because it's work from God, it is good – beautiful, even – and leads to deep satisfaction and joy. Even if the work is cleaning toilets, tending a teething baby, marking the next student assignment, seeing a difficult client, or turning the tractor for the next furrow, it is beautiful work because God has made everything beautiful in its time. So, when our work is done each day, we can rest, eat and drink and be glad because this rest, like the good work before it, is all a gift from God. Whatever you do today, let your work be an offering back to the God who gave it to you, who gave you the abilities and time to do it. The God who delights in your offering and in you. Please pray with me: Lord Jesus, take my work today, whatever it is, and receive it as a sign of my love and gratitude towards you. Fill my work with your perfect power so what I say and do blesses others and honors you, even as you bless me. Thank you, beloved Jesus.
