2-19-21
Continuing with the Lent idea of giving up something for Lent, today’s devotion is based on James 3: 9-10—“With the tongue, we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” Today, I want you to give up the use of “bad words.” Any form of vulgarity, cursing, swearing, or any other use of obscene language needs to cease and from your daily vocabulary. Replace bad words with godly words or no words at all. For some of us, especially those of us who worked in the construction business, this might be harder to do. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen; you know how easy it is for me to use ungodly words. Remind me, Lord, of your forgiveness. I did not deserve it, yet you forgave me and accepted me into your family. Help me only to use words that build others up and give you glory. In Jesus’ holy name, I pray. Amen.
