Do not be deceived.

Today’s devotion is based on Matthew 24:23-25, “If anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Messiah!” or “There he is!” – Do not believe it. For false Messiahs and false prophets will appear; they will perform great miracles and wonders in order to deceive even God’s chosen people if possible. Listen! I have told you this ahead of time.”

Nothing has changed since Jesus walked this earth. Every year there seems to be someone in the news claiming to be the Messiah or a prophet or a healer. Some will even back their claim with great words of wisdom or perform miraculous deeds. Their call is usually the same, ‘Come and follow me.’
Jesus warns us not to be fooled. When he comes again, everyone will know about it. It won’t be a secret. Jesus will not need to perform in front of TV cameras so that everyone will see him. He will not have to prove to us that he is the Messiah. Everyone, even those who do not believe in God, will instantly know him as the Messiah.

Please pray with me the prayer for today. Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, help me through your word keep the true faith and not be distracted by others claiming to be the way to heaven. Thank you for your love for me, as it is shown through Jesus agony and death. All praise and glory to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
