Today’s devotion is based on Colossians1:21,22, “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.” An enemy of God? That’s impossible. I have never hated God. You probably have, as I have, thought that that could not be true. The problem is that it is true. God tells us that our evil behavior alienated us from him. God cannot and will not accept sin. Since we are all sinners, sin makes us God’s enemies. We don’t want to hear this, but whether we want to hear it or not is irrelevant. God has declared it to be true. The good news for us is that God does not want to be our enemy. He loves us. That is why Jesus came to suffer and die for our sins. All of our evil behavior was washed away by Jesus’ blood on the cross. We are no longer God’s enemies. We have been reconciled to him. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, I know that without Jesus, I would be your enemy because of my sins. Give me peace and joy this day, knowing that I am no longer your enemy but your beloved and forgiven child. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
