During Lent, I am continuing to share a daily thought with you about “something for you to give up that is spiritually unhealthy and to replace it with something that will be restoratively and spiritually positive.” I believe this exchange will absolutely benefit you in your walk with Jesus. Today’s devotion is based on Proverbs 14:3—“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” Today, I want to encourage you to give up any envious thoughts and replace them with thoughts of goodwill. Envy breeds jealousy, greed, resentment, and an assortment of other bitter feelings. Instead of being bitter and discontent with what you have or your circumstance and projecting those envious feelings onto someone else’s situation, look to ways to improve yourself. Replace negativity with a positive “I can do attitude” about yourself and your prospects. Lastly, but certainly not least, be happy for those you might have been envious of before. You will be happier. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen; I come before you today, confessing my sins. Please forgive me for being envious of others. Help me to quit being envious by focusing on the good gifts that you have given me. In Jesus’ holy name, I pray. Amen.
