Today’s devotion is based on John 14:1,12 where we hear Jesus say to his disciples,“Do not let your hearts be troubled. . . . Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.” Everyone loves a hero. But superheroes are in short supply. So, we call anyone a hero who goes above and beyond to protect and serve us. And we should. We should be thankful for our everyday heroes. They continue to work tirelessly to take care of us during this crisis. If ever there was a hero, it was Jesus. He gives your life purpose. You are essential. By his powerful Word, you can do great things even while you practicing “social distancing.” You can still talk to those who are suffering from guilt, comfort those scared of dying, be a friend to the lonely, encourage those who might be feeling overwhelmed. You can do this all from your home, for you have what those of the world don’t have, God’s power through Jesus. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, remind us daily through your Word that since you are in us and we are in you that we can continue your work on this earth. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
