As I read Genesis 41:41–57 this morning, verses 51–52 caught my attention. " Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, "It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household." The second son he named Ephraim and said, "It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering."
Life has changed for Joseph. Pharaoh kept his word. Joseph was put in charge of everything. There was nobody above him except Pharaoh himself. He was held in high esteem by the people. God’s hand was at work. He gave Joseph two gifts: the ability to forgive his family and fruitfulness. Life is good.
Forgetting can be challenging. I am sure Joseph struggled at times, but God's work through his word softened Joseph’s heart. We need God’s word to help us, too. It might not be easy, but it can be done because God wants you to have a forgiving heart. He knows not to forgive, which hurts your relationship with him and others.
Read the verses for today againto see who is doing the work. It is not you but God who causes you to forgive and bear fruitfulness.
