8-8-19
Today’s devotion is based on Genesis 4:3-5, “In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. And Abel also brought an offering-- fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering, he did not look with favor.” God sounds like a harsh God when you read these verses. But he is not for he does not judge on outward things but things of the heart. Even before Cain and Abel had brought their sacrifices, God knew the hearts of both men. Abel came with a good heart while Cain with an evil heart. God looks only at the faith of a person and is not influenced by their works as we are. God cannot be fooled. Please pray with me the prayer for today. Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, you know my mind actions better than I do. You know when I do good not to please you but to please those around me. Help me through your holy words to be the faithful person you want me to me. Forgive me when I falter. All glory and honor are given to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
