God, through Jesus, is our Refuge

Today’s devotion is based on Psalm 46:2,3: “Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”
We will not fear because God is our refuge. While we generally think of a refuge as a place where we find security and comfort. God is our place of refuge. That’s what he gives to any who seek him. We can run to him for safety, no matter what is happening.

Times like now around the world can pummel our sense of security. It’s an excellent time to consider what you are holding on to in this time of uncertainty. Where are you, anchored? Who do you turn to for security?

There is only one person, Jesus, who offers an everlasting refuge. He has opened the door to God’s presence to all people. Anyone who trusts him and his love for us, even dying and rising for us, to break the power of sin, death, and Satan for us, is already inside the refuge he gives, for he is our refuge. In God, we have a peace that the world can’t provide.

Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, thank you for being our refuge in this life and the next. Help me when I become fearful that you are there ready to hold me close. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
