10-31-23
Today's devotion is based on Matthew 22:36-40, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the great first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." God's commandments are a divine blueprint for the life He envisions for us. They offer us a clear picture of the kind of life God is constructing on our behalf. These commandments serve as a guide, directing us in the way we should live. God's commandments are not issued merely to test our obedience but to build us up and enrich our lives. They lead us to a life of fullness and purpose. However, we often fall short of keeping these commands as we should. Our hope lies not in our ability to fulfill these commands but in Christ Jesus, who sacrificed Himself for our sins and continues interceding for us before the Father. Through His Word and the Holy Spirit, God nurtures the unending love within us. Please join me in prayer: Thank you, God, that you are love, and you call us into the life of love. Please give us your Holy Spirit so that we may keep the commands of your Son and love one another as you have first loved us. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
