10-2-19
Today’s devotion is based on Luke 16:29-31. “Abraham said, “Your brothers have Moses and the prophets to warn them; your brothers should listen to what they say.” The rich man answered, “That is not enough, father Abraham! But if someone were to rise from death and go to them, then they would turn from their sins.” But Abraham said, “If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone were to rise from death.” God has left you to find out about him on your own. He has given you the bible to show you the way. The whole Bible; the history, the commandments, the prophetic books, the psalms and poetry, the gospel accounts, the letters of the apostles, the apocalyptic books all point to Jesus Christ. Jesus—who suffered, died, rose again, ascended into glory—he is the only way to God and life after death. Please pray with me the prayer for today. Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, thank you for causing the words of the Bible to be written down. It is the only way I can know you, your will for us, and my need for you. Give me a spirit and open heart to hear what you say. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
