Living your Christian life in service to others.
Today's devotion is based on Philippians 2:5-7, “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
Today's passage gives us a glimpse into the mind of Jesus and empowers us to live as He did. It tells us who He is and exactly how He lived. Jesus is in very nature, God. But even though He is God, He did not use His divinity for His own advantage. He had infinite power, but He used it in miracles that helped others, not Himself. He blessed children, washed feet, served meals, taught thousands, and became a servant of all.
This is the mindset that God wants us to have. It is very different from how we usually operate. Humility does not come naturally. We don't want to humble ourselves. Our sinful nature will always try to convince us that we deserve to be served.
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are forgiven of our sins and given a new heart. This means that we can now serve others with the same mindset that Jesus had. We can use our gifts and talents to help others, and we can do it with a joyful heart.
Please pray with me: Lord Jesus, please help me to remember your servant heart so that I will serve others as you served me. Help me to humble myself and serve others with joy. In your blessed name, I pray. Amen.
