Today’s devotion is based on a prayer by Jonah. It is recorded for us in Jonah 2:7-10. “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the LORD.’” And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.” “Salvation comes from the LORD,” is what our aching hearts need always to hear. If being saved were up to you or me, we would fail. But we need not fear because salvation from death and damnation is from the Lord, Jesus Christ. That’s what the cross and the empty tomb are all about. Jesus is our Savior! Please pray with me the prayer for today: Father, you know how weak I am, how quickly I turn my back on guidance. Without you, I am lost, cast adrift on the waves of life. Restore me O Lord so that I, too, can say with Jonah, “Salvation comes from the Lord.” In Jesus’ holy name, I pray. Amen.
