Today’s devotion is based on Romans 8:30, “Those [God] called, he also justified.” Imagine you are in God’s courtroom. He is the judge. You are on trial for breaking his law. God’s law demands perfection. Every word, always perfect, all the time. Every thought, always perfect. Everything you do, always perfect all the time. Are you that good? No. So, how are you going to defend yourself? There is no hope for you are doomed, just as we all are if we think that there is anything in us that makes us guilt-free before God. We are lost. So, how do you defend yourself? Try this: “Your honor, I admit that I deserve to be separated from you forever. But I know One who suffered on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He has taken away my sin.” And just like that, the trial is over. The verdict? Not guilty. God justifies you for Jesus’ sake. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, thank you for sending you Son, Jesus Christ to serve my sentence, so that on Judgment Day I can stand before you guilt free. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
