Today’s devotion is based on Mark 9, the last half of verse 7 and verse 8. ‘“Listen to him!” Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.” Today is Transfiguration Sunday. If you are not familiar with the word, “transfiguration” it means “that there is a marked change in form or appearance; a metamorphosis.” It also can mean “A change that glorifies or exalts.” Both of these definitions apply to what happened that day. The part I love about this passage is God saying to those there that day, “Listen to him.” I can imagine God was somewhat frustrated with them because they were not listening to Jesus. They had other ideas about him, and what Jesus was telling them did not fit their idea of who he was and what he had come to earth to accomplish. The message for us today is equally clear. We can be a bit thick at times. God says to us too, “Listen to him! Jesus became a human being for you. Jesus lived his life without sinning by obeying God because he completely trusted God for you. Jesus died for you. Jesus lay in the grave for you. Jesus, the son of God, rose for you.” We are free to talk and tell everyone about the wonderful God we can call our dad, for that is the relationship we have with him. Let’s revel in that freedom and do just that! Please pray with me the prayer for today: I love your unconventional approach to meeting people where they are and showing them what it means to be loved. Please help me to show those people you place in my path the joy of knowing you. Please give me the words that they need to hear from you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
