Today's devotion for today is based on Mark 10:23. "Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, 'How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!'"
By world standards, even the poorest of us are wealthy. Most of us live in homes. We have closets full of clothes. We have all sorts of electronic things. We have transportation. We are indeed wealthy. So how are we to react to Jesus' words? Are we to give all we have away and 'live by faith as the disciples did? Maybe! I know some who have been called to live like that.
I think that it is harder for the wealthy to enter the kingdom of God because the rich have usually been very successful in running their lives by themselves. They don't have to be dependent on anyone. They can buy it themselves.
Jesus is saying to us not to let the things of the world become our God. He wants us to depend on him for life, give up control, and let him guide us in this life to enter life eternal.
Please pray with me: Lord Jesus, in this quiet moment with you, open my ears to hear your voice. You are Lord of my life. I offer to you myself, my time, and my possessions. Send me where you will. Catch me as I let go of all the trappings of this world. Please help me to depend on you for all my needs. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
