Since today is the day after Pentecost, I thought it would be good to write some more about the work of the Holy Spirit in a Christians life. The text I am looking at today is John 3:16 where it is recorded, “That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” That verse is part of John 3: 16-21, which is sometimes called “the little Bible.” Unfortunately, too many people take the truth that God is good and that he loves everyone that there is nothing to worry about; they will get to heaven one way or the other. The problem with thinking this way is that all people have in our nature and insurmountable wall of separation between God and ourselves. God did not make this wall. It is a wall of our own making, a wall that we cannot tear down or overcome. God, through the work of the Holy Spirit, is the only one that can overcome that wall of separation. It happens when faith is given to us by the Holy Spirit which allows the light of Jesus to shine into the darkness we live in exposing it for what it is and for those who are troubled turn to God for salvation. Please pray with me the prayer for today. Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, thank you for your gift of the Holy Spirit so that we can become aware of our spiritual darkness and turn to your Light, The light of salvation, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
