4-19-21
We are now in the 40 days between Jesus’ resurrection and his ascension. During this time, we meditate on what the resurrection means for us and how he continues his work even today. Today’s devotion is based on Jesus’ words written in John 10:25, “Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me.’” People who are drawn to Jesus listen to his voice. When they hear God’s Word, they understand who is speaking. They want to hear more. They don’t tire of listening. They know that this Word is living and gives life. They know that Jesus knows them, not just in the sense of acknowledging their existence, but in having a deep relationship with them, devoid of obstacles, reservations, or stipulations. Thus they follow him, even if that means they have to go alone or against the grain. Jesus is the only one that can give us eternal life with God, for he is the one who made peace between God and us. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Lord Jesus, you supply all I need. You alone give me rest in times of conflict. You alone have given me your righteousness so that I stand before God the Father declared innocent. I no longer have to fear evil or death, for, in your death, you alone overcame evil and death. You alone are my comfort. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. In your holy name, I pray. Amen
