Today’s devotion is based on John 9:35-38, where we hear Jesus’ reply to the man he had healed earlier being thrown out of the synagogue because he would not testify against Jesus. “Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is He, sir, that I may believe in Him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen Him, and it is He who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped Him.” Abandoned by family, abandoned by the church—these are things that should never happen to anybody. But they do happen, and to far too many people, even today. They may have happened to you. If so, you know the hurt. Jesus knows the hurt also. He searched for the man, and when He found him, He brought him into a different kind of community; the community of the children of God, those who belong to Jesus who will never be abandoned by Him. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Lord Jesus, help me cling to you with all your might. Help me to remember that you laid down your life for me. Help me to share your love with those who are alone and abandoned, so that they are brought close to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
