August 21, 2020 Today’s devotion is based on Saint Paul’s words to Timothy as they are recorded for us in 1 Timothy 2:1, “I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone.” I realize that it is really hard for some in the present political climate. They pray, but as some have shared with me through the years, they are praying that those of the other party are for them to lose their position of power, but sometimes that harm would come to them. I think that even they would agree that is not what God wants us to pray for, in praying for our leaders, both political and appointed. I have to be honest with you; sometimes, I struggle in my prayers when it comes to those that I believe are not doing the right thing for our country. But then I remember that God wants us to pray for our leaders that they would be God’s agents towards good so that we can live in tranquillity and peace, as well as that godliness and dignity for all humans, might follow. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, I want to pray on behalf of our government, that they might work together for the good of all people. I pray for them, that you protect them from the evil one and that they experience your goodness. I pray for our leaders that they work as one to battle the fear and separation of disease and strife. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
