8-7-19
I have missed the last few days because I was having a procedure done at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Good results, so I give all praise to God. Today’s devotion is based on Jude 1:20-21. “But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” We are told in God’s Word to pray in the Holy Spirit. Many people interpret that to mean that they are to pray silently. I, though my own experiences, would say that we should not attempt to pray without spoken word unless you are well trained in keeping stray thoughts from our mind. Stray thoughts will lead you away from your prayer. Speaking one’s prayer, I find is a big help to staying task. Maybe someday I will be able to pray silently without becoming distracted, but for now, I pray out loud. If you are having trouble praying without words you might try this out, for it works well for me. Have a blessed day. Please pray with me the prayer for today. Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, thank you for the gift of prayer so that I can communicate with you. Thank you for listening to them. Thank you for answering my prayers. All glory and honor are given to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
