Today my daily devotion is based on Romans 15:2, “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.”
We don’t live for ourselves; we live for others. Living this way gives our lives meaning and contentment. Our sinful self-serving Old Adam wants to fulfill that by dominating and deciding what best serves us as we serve others. Those who live in the Spirit of Christ desire to help others for others’ good. That is to be the life of a Christian. Serving others for their sake is not easy, but it becomes easier as one grows in faith.
Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen; thank you for serving your creation by the life, death, and resurrection of your Son, Jesus. Through his giving of self for others, we live our lives in gratitude as we serve others in need. Forgive us when we fail to live as you desire. Encourage and strengthen us when we falter. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
