Today's devotion is based on Philippians, 2:15,16: "Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world." The Apostle Paul contrasts followers of Jesus with what is around them – 'a crooked and depraved generation.' Followers of Jesus have adopted the mindset of Jesus himself. Philippians 2:5 says, 'Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus'. They stand out. Sometimes we don't want to shine like stars. We don't want people to look at us as though we are some weird freaks. We like to blend and not be noticed too much because no one wants to stand alone. When you feel that way remember that it is 'God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose.' He is still doing it. He infuses you with his light so that, as you stand out, what stands out is God's love. People may look at you as some weird freak, but if your shining comes from God, you are faithful to God's light. Please pray with me: Loving God, work in me through your Spirit so that I can reflect your light and shine like a star in the darkness of this world. In Jesus' blessed name, I pray. Amen.
