The Day of Silence

Today’s devotion is based on Psalm 130:5, “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word, I hope.”

Christians honor the day Jesus died, Good Friday, the first day. We honor the day Jesus rose from the dead, Easter Sunday, the third day. But the second day, the day of silence, as Jesus lay in the tomb, is a day of uncertainty for the followers of Jesus. It is a day of fear and disappointment, the loss of hope in Jesus. It is a day of wondering why God has abandoned them. It is a day of silence.

For you, for me, our ‘day of silence’ because of mental, physical, and other ailments and problems of life can last weeks, months, years, maybe a lifetime. It can be so deep, so relentless that we can barely believe that the silence will end and that our resurrection day will ever come. Faith trembles. Hope fades.

But just as the Resurrection day came for the disciples, your resurrection day will also come. God has promised it. He might be silent now, but he is with you. He has promised that he will never leave you or abandon you. God cannot break his promises, so until that day, keep your eyes on heaven as you wait and pray. Your resurrection day will come.

Please pray with me the prayer for today: Lord my God, just as the second day, the day of silence, was hard for the disciples; the silence of God in my life is hard. Thank you for holding me during those times when I can no longer hold on to you. Thank you for your promise that, as the disciples did, I, too, will see you again on Resurrection Day. In our risen Savior’s name, I pray. Amen.
