Today’s devotion is based on Psalm 91:2-4, “I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings, you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. The NIV uses the word ‘pestilence’, which a Biblical dictionary says refers to as something that is infectious, destructive to life, and injurious to peace and morals. Pestilences happened in the psalmist’s era as well as ours. They have plagued humans since Adam and Ever were shown the door out of the Garden of Eden. The writer did not dwell on problems of the pestilence. He looked to God knowing that when you live and dwell in the Lord’s shelter, surely, he will protect you! We are still safe in God’s hands. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, thank you that our lives are in your hands. We don’t have to fear because you have promised to be with us in whatever befalls us. I pray this in the name of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen
