During Lent, I am continuing to share a daily thought with you about something for you to give up that is spiritually unhealthy and to replace it with something that will be restoratively and spiritually positive. I believe this exchange will absolutely benefit you in your walk with Jesus. Today's devotion is based today on 2 Corinthians 1:3,4: "Praise be to the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we receive from God." Self-reliance is the trademark of Americans. We are a do-it-yourself kind of people. The past year's events have made us realize that, in the end, self-reliance is a myth. We need Christ, for, without him, we are destined to receive God's wrath. With Christ, we are destined to receive God's mercy and forgiveness. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen; I come before you today, confessing my sins, especially the sin of self-reliance. Please help me to remember that I cannot save myself from God's wrath. Help me realize that we, as God's creation, are not made to be self-reliant, for we are made to live in community with each other. Thank you for your gift of grace toward me. In Jesus' holy name, I pray. Amen.
