God is love Today's devotion is based on John 3:16, " "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." Some would refer to this verse as the "little Bible," for it tells us that God loves us. Some who read it, at least the first part, believe that since he loves all people, we have nothing to worry about since everyone will get to heaven one way or another. Unfortunately, those who believe that way do not believe what is written in the last half of the verse, for that is the only way to eternal life. The problem is that while it is true that God loves humanity, it is also true that humanity, each one of us, no matter how hard we try, cannot come to God on our own. God's judgment has already been pronounced; death is the evidence of his judgment. That which is evil, even the smallest amount of evil, is the direct opposite of God. That is why God came to us in the form of a sinless man called Jesus to take the punishment we deserve. In him alone is our salvation. Please pray with me, Come Holy Spirit, illuminate our hearts and allow us to say the glory of Jesus who became one of us so that we can be covered in his righteousness when we stand before you on Judgment Day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
