Today's devotion is based on 2 Peter 1: 18-21, "And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." How can you know if a particular religious message is true or false? Compare it to what God has said in the Bible, for Peter says that he and the other Bible writers spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. You can't beat that method of checking out what someone says about the meaning of a particular passage of the Bible. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit who inspired the words of the prophets and apostles. Please help me to recognize your truth so that I am not misled by false teachings. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
