Today’s devotion is based on Mark 1:14,15, “Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” I suspect that John’s followers were deeply disturbed when King Herod had John arrested and thrown into prison. John was the greatest prophet, even Jesus said that. John himself might have asking, “Why did God allow this to happen?” Simply put it is time for John not to be the focus. He would soon be beheaded. John’s fate points to Jesus’ destiny. Because Jesus loves us, all of us, he moves forward, knowing that his life will end on the cross rejected by God for our sins. The kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe the Gospel is our call today. Please pray with me the prayer for today: Lord Jesus, when I turn from your light toward darkness, remind me through your Word that I am a child of yours, paid for by your blood. In your name, I pray. Amen.
