Today's devotion is based on Mark 16:15, "Who do you say I am?" It was easy for the disciples of Jesus to tell him who others thought he was. But when Jesus asked them who they thought it was, things changed. It is not recorded for us what they said that day, but I wonder if there was some hesitation when they started answering his question. There was no hesitation in Peter's answer, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." There is still division among people today concerning who Jesus is, just as there was in Jesus' day. You can read the Bible repeatedly and yet not believe that Jesus is Christ, the Son of the living God. For, just as Jesus told Peter that it was God the Father who gave him the faith to make that statement, it is still God the Father through the work of the Holy Spirit who gives us the faith to profess with Peter, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Please pray with me the prayer for today: You rejoiced Lord when Peter confessed his faith. You rejoice when I confess that "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Yet I fail time after time to live as one of yours. Lord help me in my unbelief. Amen.
