Today's devotion is based on Jesus' words as they are written down for us in Mark 2:17, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
This text reveals how desperately we need Jesus because we will always fall short of righteousness. God will not accept anything but perfection. One slip of imperfection, and you are out. The good news in this text is that it also provides comfort because we don't need to constantly strive to be perfect or worthy or to say the 'right' things that society expects us to say or do. Instead, through Jesus, we receive total acceptance based on what he alone has done for us. That is good news, indeed.
Please pray with me: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that we don't have to prove ourselves worthy enough or righteous enough for salvation! Thank you for sacrificing your Son, who willingly died in our place, so that we can stand in your presence on Judgment Day. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
