9-11-19
Today’s devotion is based on Romans 14:11-15. “It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'" So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean. If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.” God’s church is a body of believers. You are part of that body. Christ has given you the freedom to live your life according to the measure of faith you have. But in that freedom he also wants you to look out for your brothers and sisters in the faith. Use your freedom wisely, so as not to discourage others to the point of despair or offense. In doing so they will be built up as you walk in love together. Please pray with me the prayer for today. Heavenly Father, creator, and sustainer of all things, seen and unseen, help me to discern what is helpful and what is harmful to me and others, so that those around me may be built up in Christ Jesus. All glory and honor are given to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
