Joy in serving our Lord Today's devotion is based on 1 Thessalonians 1:3, "We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, You have probably heard the wry comment that 'Jesus is coming back soon – look busy!' It is easy to drift towards being like Martha in our labors and lose sight of the one we love. We can easily get absorbed in all the tasks and lose our joy. Recently I have been reflecting on the call we have to 'go into all the world and make disciples' – and how I sometimes respond by getting on with the 'task' as if it is up to me somehow. It is much better to 'see Jesus' in my place of labor and 'do it, as unto him.' When labor is prompted by love, it is a radically different way to live, so much so that the Thessalonian Christians who found this secret became famous. Please pray with me: Lord Jesus, help me see you in my labors today – to see you in the ordinary, most minor moments of my day. Help me to 'lose my life so I might find it in you.' Amen.
